C.Doctor was founded by two brothers Mr. Chinubhai L. Mehta and Mr. Vadibhai L Mehta. Mr. V.L. Mehta was a prominent personality in Gujarat during and after India’s freedom struggle and an ardent follower of Mahatma Gandhi and the philosophy of Trusteeship. He has written the book – ‘Equality through Trusteeship’. The trusteeship philosophy is also reflected through all the C.Doctor businesses.Initially the two brothers started Textile mills and the Starch factory. Their business acumen helped them to multiply the number of both textile mills & the starch business. They also felt a need for a marketing organization. In 1915 they started C.Doctor & Co Pvt Ltd.It was in the 1940s that C. Doctor had a strategic tie-up with Bahnson, USA for the marketing and distribution of its humidifiers in India. In the late 1950s C. Doctor formed its own manufacturing unit in the name of C. Doctor India Pvt Ltd [Formerly Industrial Machinery Mfrs Pvt Ltd] and entered into a technical collaboration with Bahnson USA for the manufacture of humidification equipments.In the 1980s after a Family Division, Mr. S.V.Mehta, son of Mr. V.L.Mehta who had so far successfully grown the Starch Business into a Leadership position in India, took over the reigns of C.Doctor & Co., now with only the fledgling Engineering Business operations as part of the company. With his vision and values of his father, During 1980-85 C. Doctor India entered into manufacturing alliances with Air Technology Inc., USA for Industrial fans, Sturtevant Engineering Company, UK for Industrial Vacuum Cleaners and Pneumatic Conveying Systems,. Hi-Vac, USA for Bulk Heavy Duty Vacuum Cleaners, Ishigaki Mechanical Industry Company Ltd, Japan for Rotary drum Vacuum Filters and Karl Fischer GmbH Germany for Driers.Around late seventiesthe and early eighties C.Doctor started undertaking turnkey projects involving mostly their own factory products. Today C.Doctor undertakes turnkey projects of any kind with or without involving its factory products.
