Marib Gas Power Station (MGPS) – Phase I
​The Marib Gas Power Station (Phase I) is the primary and largest power generation facility in the Republic of Yemen. As the nation’s first large-scale plant utilizing natural gas, it serves as the cornerstone of the National Grid, providing reliable and cost-effective energy.
​1. Core Technical Specifications

​Total Generating Capacity: 342 Megawatts (MW).
​Generation Units: The station operates three (3) Siemens V94.2 gas turbines, each designed for high reliability and performance under varying ambient conditions.
​Fuel Configuration: The plant is fueled by high-quality natural gas sourced from the Safer fields (Block 18), ensuring efficient combustion and lower operational costs.
​Workforce: The facility is managed by a highly skilled team of 285 professionals, including specialized engineers and technicians expert in gas turbine maintenance and power plant operations.

​2. Infrastructure and Construction

​The Consortium: The station was engineered and constructed by a world-class joint venture between Siemens AG (Germany), providing the core turbine technology, and BEMCO (Arabian Bemco Contracting Co.), overseeing the civil and mechanical balance of plant.
​Transmission Network: Power is evacuated via a state-of-the-art high-voltage transmission system of 400 kV, connecting the Marib facility to major load centers across the country.

​3. Strategic Importance

​Economic Impact: MGPS is the most vital asset in the Yemeni energy sector, significantly reducing the national reliance on expensive liquid fuels (Diesel and Heavy Fuel Oil).
​Future Readiness: The facility was designed with scalability in mind, including provisions for future expansions (Phase II) to meet the growing industrial and domestic demand for power.
